With the passing of State Senate Bill SB7, electricity deregulation became effective in Texas on January 1, 2002. This has allowed residents and businesses living in Texas State and in other cities of Texas like Corpus Christi the “Power to Choose” their electricity providers and this in turn created competition among various power companies. This competition has resulted in lower electric rates, discount in payments, and reward programs for the consumers. Now consumers can get electricity by making the switch to a lower rate retail electricity provider which can save several hundreds of dollars.
